Sanyo was never known as a high-end audiophile brand like Marantz or Sansui. You might say they're a mid-level brand. However, they produced one of the largest boombox lineups of any manufacturer. Some of the best-known examples are the M9994, which has fantastic build quality and was marketed as a "professional" model, and the MX960, a huge monster of a boombox with an angular-mounted subwoofer and which was affectionally labeled "Big-Ben" on the Japanese version. Then there's the M-X820 / M-X824, a very unique model with a "flying" tuner display. We have not seen another model by any manufacturer with this feature, and due to its rarity, it is one of the most highly sought-after models, commanding a very high price on the used marketplace.

Sanyo began to experience financial difficulties after the 2004 earthquakes, and was eventually acquired by Panasonic in 2009. However, the brand still lives on, especially in the rechargeable battery and smart TV categories. Here is a list of every Sanyo boombox and karaoke player we're aware of:
