Sanyo C9
The Sanyo C9 was introduced in 1982. It is a larger, more powerful version of the Sanyo C7. It was available in both gray and silver versions. It consists of 3 separate components, including the C9T tuner, the C9D tape deck & amplifier, and the C9P power supply unit. After you stack these 3 components together, you can then attach the speakers and the carry handle. With everything assembled, the total system dimensions are 597mm wide, 307mm tall, and 232mm deep.
The speakers contain 16cm woofers and 4cm tweeters. The bass ports are fake. If you shine a flashlight at them, you'll see they are sealed off. The amplifier consists of two TA7237P chips mounted to a beefy heat sink. Output is rated at 15 watts per channel. The tape deck has a frequency response of 30 to 17,000 Hz with Metal tape, and the wow and flutter is only 0.05% WRMS, which is quite good for a boombox. The sound quality is loud, with good definition and plenty of treble from the tweeters. The bass is there too, but it's kind of tight, because the woofers are a bit stiff. And there is a boxy resonance at higher volumes, which you might be able to fix with some fiber fill and/or Dynamat.
