Sanyo M-X960
The M-X960 was the international export version of the Sanyo MR-X20 Big Ben. It has the same features and controls. It measures 607mm wide, 367 tall (handle down), and 221mm deep. It weighs about 21 lbs without batteries. It's a 5-speaker boombox, with 12cm full-range speakers, 5cm tweeters, and a 20cm, 2.4 ohm "Super Woofer" sitting behind a removable grill. The Super Woofer has a low-pass filter that prioritizes frequencies below 300 Hz, and its volume can be adjusted with the Super Woofer knob located to the left of the Bass knob. The Super Woofer is powered by a Toshiba TA7205AP amplifier providing about 10 watts RMS, while the other 4 speakers are powered by a Sanyo LA4440 amplifier providing 6-7 watts per channel. So the combined total is about 22-24 watts. That's similar to a Sharp GF777.
I think it's one of the best-sounding boomboxes of the 80's. The bass goes deep, and the highs are really good too. The tape deck is good quality, its wow and flutter is only 0.055% WRMS, and its frequency response is 30 to 17,000 Hz when using Metal tape. Be careful when carrying or shipping this boombox, because the antennas and antenna clips are mounted pretty high, and can easily get broken off.
