This RF-9000 shortwave "super receiver" came out in 1980, with a suggested retail price of 1 million Yen in Japan, and $3,800 in the USA. It measures 520mm wide, 362mm tall, and 206mm deep. It has two speakers, including an 18 x 12 cm oval woofer and a 6.5cm round tweeter. It weighs almost 45 lbs, which is about 3 times as heavy as most cheap boomboxes of the same size, which gives you a sense of how much circuitry is packed inside this monster. And that's without the 12 D-cell batteries! I can't figure out why anyone would use batteries with something like this.
