This was a very advanced boombox, considering it was made in 1980. It can be tuned using the buttons OR the knob.

Sanyo MR-P6

The Sanyo MR-P6 was available only in Japan (but another version called the Fisher PH-470 was sold internationally). It was introduced in 1980, and it was very advanced for its time, because it has a digital tuner that can be operated via buttons or via the knob on the side of the boombox. It has 6 station preset buttons. The tape deck has programmable song search, with 7 selector buttons above the tape door. There's a beautiful metal plate inside the deck, and on the door too. All this quality results in heavy weight (7.4 kg without batteries). The speakers are 16cm woofers with rolled cloth edges, and 5cm tweeters. It has very strong sound and bass. It uses 10 D-cell batteries and a Sanyo LA4125T amplifier chip. Sanyo says it makes 2x7.5 watts EIAJ/DC, or 2x13 watts "music power".
