GE 3-5295A

The 3-5295A, nicknamed Omni-Tech, was a great-looking boombox from General Electric's 1982 lineup. According to the June 12, 1982 issue of Billboard, its retail price was $429. It has lots of metal trim, big chrome speaker caps, and an LED VU meter. It's relatively rare compared to other GE boomboxes. The service manual can be purchased HERE. It has a digital tuner, Dolby, 3-step music search, and Line In. It takes ten D-cells and was made in Japan. We believe it was developed in partnership with the Sharp GF-9797. You can see the control layout is nearly identical, as is the rear case and all the screw holes and jacks. Also, the circuit boards have Sharp printed on them. However, the GE has extra buttons allowing you to skip 3 tracks, while the Sharp only lets you skip one track at a time.

I've never owned this model, but according to some collectors, it doesn't have much low bass. But it's still a good-looking, feature-filled box that was pretty advanced for its time. Michael Jordan had one in his dorm room, as you can see in the photo below.
