This has got to be one of the most expensive radios ever made. Almost 45 lbs, and that's without the 12 D-cell batteries!

National RF-9000

This RF-9000 "super receiver" came out in 1980, with a suggested retail price of 1 million Yen in Japan, and $3,800 in the USA. I'm not going to bother listing all the features, especially since I wouldn't understand most of them......but I've included a screenshot of an article from the December 1980 issue of Electronics Australia magazine. And according to the Panasonic owners manual, this model measures 520mm wide, 362mm tall, and 206mm deep. It has two speakers, including an 18 x 12 cm oval woofer and a 6.5cm round tweeter. It weighs almost 45 lbs, which is about 3 times as heavy as most cheap boomboxes of the same size, which gives you a sense of how much circuitry is packed inside this monster. And that's without the 12 D-cell batteries! I can't figure out why anyone would use batteries with something like this.
