The Aiwa EXOS-9 was launched in 2015 and puts out loads of bass for its size. 5 speakers with an alleged 200 watts.

Aiwa EXOS-9

Aiwa produced many good-quality boomboxes and mini systems during the 1980's and 1990's. Some of them can be seen by clicking HERE.. But the company ceased to exist in 2005. It was re-launched in 2015 by an investor in Chicago. This EXOS-9 is their first new product. Their website claims that it has a "continuous" power output of 200 watts. It uses class D amps in a bi-amp configuration. The amount of bass it puts out is amazing, considering that it's plastic and weighs only 13 lbs.

There are 5 speakers, making it look somewhat similar to the old Aiwa CS-880 from the early 1980's. However it does not have a radio tuner, CD player, or cassette player. It only plays Bluetooth, or an external device connected to its 3.5mm Aux input.

The rings around the speakers are gray. Here are some before and after photos from Boomboxery member "hardmen" who took his grill off and painted the rings silver.

Overall, we applaud this effort from Aiwa. We hope that future Aiwa products are given a little more "street style", because half the fun of owning a boombox is that it captures the eyes and holds them hostage! The more chrome, carbon fiber, fake bolt heads, and flashing lights, the better! Oh, and please add an FM radio too!!
