Black 3-piece boombox from 1985-1986 with 2 tape decks and an optional CD player.

Pioneer CK-W700

This was a 3-piece boombox from the mid 1980's. Its claim to fame was an optional CD player (PD-C7S) that could be inserted into the top slot. It also has two full-logic tape decks with autoreverse, Dolby B, and song search. The frequency response is quoted at 40 to 16,000 Hz when using Metal tape, and the wow and flutter rating is 0.06% WRMS.

According to the Pioneer catalog, the FTC standardized power output is 2x14W into 4 ohms from 100Hz to 15kHz at no more than 10% THD. Which is actually very good for a boombox, but can those lightweight plastic speakers really tolerate that much power? There was no law requiring Pioneer to have those speakers connected while measuring the power output.
