Ion Spectraboom
The Ion Spectraboom came out in 2016 and features a piano-black housing, a comfortable folding handle, 5-inch woofers with rubber surrounds, real tweeters, and 2 bass ports on the back. The speakers are lighted, with 7 different colors. You can set them to change colors every 5 seconds, beat to the music, or just shut them off entirely. Unfortunately you can't leave it on one single color. It always rotates through all 7 colors.
For audio sources, the Spectraboom can play Bluetooth, FM radio, and 3.5mm Aux In. There's also a USB port, but it's just for charging your phone....you can't play music through it. The Bluetooth and 3.5mm work fine, but the FM radio has very weak reception. I could only pick up 2-3 stations, when I should be picking up 25-30 in this area. The reason is, it doesn't have an external antenna. Just an internal antenna wire that seems to be connected to the handle, because when I touch the handle the reception improves.
In terms of a sound quality review, I think it sounds pretty good for the price ($160-180). It only weighs 8.2 lbs, but the bass hits pretty damn hard for such a lightweight plastic unit. And the tweeters work well too. Overall I was impressed. Unfortunately there are no bass, treble, or EQ settings, but I don't think they're needed on this model. It already sounds well-balanced to me.
