The Sencor S4800 is one of the most unusual boombox designs. It has no known AKA's, so it is probably Sencor's own design. The most prominent features are its metal grab handles on the sides. Overall, this model has a somewhat drab, industrial, military appearance with its color selection and its 4 meter windows. The 2 meters at the top measure voltage and tuning stretch, or VU levels when playing a tape. The meter at the lower left is intended to help you set the FM preset stations. And the meter at the lower right is actually the tuner dial, which scrolls vertically as you turn the knob. This knob has a very smooth movement, unlike most boomboxes. One finger is all it takes. And it has city names printed on the scrolling dial.

Sound quality is pretty good. It has a very wamn sound signature, with good bass at low volume levels. Stereo separation is very good. Treble is acceptable but not as detailed as most Panasonics or Sanyos. Overall, It sounds better than a Sharp GF9191 but not as good as a Sanyo M9994.

Common flaws include a burned-out tuner light, and sticking buttons.

It takes 8 D-cell batteries, and 2 AA batteries for its digital clock. The weight without batteries is 16.5 lbs (7.5 kg).

There is a somewhat more attractive "De Luxe" version with silver grills.
