TDK 2 Speaker Boombox
The TDK "Life on Record" 2-Speaker Boombox (model TP6802) was introduced in late 2010 with a price of $399, and it offers very nice sound and build quality. It can play flash drives with MP3 or WMA files, AM/FM radio, Line Input (either RCA or 3.5mm), and iPods/iPhones (the instructions say it can accept iPhone 3G and 3GS, iPod Classic, iPod Touch 2nd gen, and iPod Nano 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gen).. It doesn't have Bluetooth...TDK didn't add that feature until 2012 when they introduced the all-new, redesigned Wireless Boombox. Nor does it have a rechargeable battery, so you will need to use ten D-cell batteries, or the 18V adapter (part number GPE302-180167-1).
This boombox is heavy, solid, and built very well, with a rubber pad along the bottom, screws for the reinforced battery door, and metal brackets on the side for the optional shoulder strap. If you want to disassemble it for some reason, here is an excellent thread with instructions: CLICK HERE
Make sure you have the latest firmware installed. The last version I'm aware of was 2.3.7. You can see what version you have by holding down the OK button while turning the power on (keep holding it down for several seconds until the menu appears), and then select "Version" in the menu. If you don't have version 2.3.7, you can get it from the Library section of Boomboxery. Here's a direct LINK
Now let's do a sound quality review. It has 5.5 inch carbon-fiber speakers with rubber surrounds, and 1.5" tweeters mounted coaxially. There is also a bass port on the back. The output is "only" 2x10 watts, but don't be fooled, it sounds better than many models claiming to put out 10 times as much power. The bass hits hard. It's very, very good for modern hip-hop. I tested it against TDK's larger 3 Speaker Boombox, and while the 3 Speaker is louder, I preferred the sound of the 2 Speaker because it has a tuned port that makes the bass go deeper. The 3-Speaker doesn't have a port.
