Sony CFS-88
The CFS-88 was a large fold-up boombox from Sony, built in 1981. It is approximately 3 feet long when folded out. The detachable speakers receive their power from the metal hinges. Or, if you want wider stereo separation, you can detach the speakers and power them with cables hidden in the compartments on the bottom of each speaker.
It weighs 9.4kg (20.8 lbs), not including batteries. It has 20cm woofers and 5cm tweeters. According to the service manual, its power output is 2x6W at 10% distortion, on DC operation. Sadly, like many early Sonys, it doesn't have as much bass as you'd hope. But, watching those glorious VU meters bounce back and forth makes up for it. Also, the knobs are chunky and feel great to use.
The model pictured below is a CFS-88S model which has extra shortwave bands added to the tuner.
