Lasonic TRC-935
The TRC-935 was the first of Lasonic's three 'big body' models. It's also the best-sounding one, in my opinion. I don't know why, but the overall sound and warmth puts the 951 and 975 to shame at any volume. Also, unlike those models, it has a digital clock, Line Out jacks, and beautiful lighted caps on the equalizer sliders!
It measures 28.8" wide, 14" tall, and 6.3" deep and weighs exactly 19 lbs without batteries. It has 8" woofers and 2.5" red-colored tweeters. It requires 10 D-cell batteries plus a 9V battery for the clock (unless you leave it plugged into the wall, in which case you don't need that battery). Lasonic says the output power is 2x15 watts RMS into 4 ohms. That might actually be a conservative number, because I see on the schematic that it has two Toshiba TA7270 amplifier chips. Assuming they're wired in BTL (bridged) format, then this boombox probably makes about 2x20W at 10% distortion, or 2x16W at 1% distortion. If true, that would make it one of the most powerful 80s boomboxes.
The service manual can be purchased HERE. And if you need a new battery door for it, you can purchase a 3D-printed copy HERE.
If you need to adjust the tape speed, don't bother trying to put a screwdriver into the motor. Instead, use the variable resistor labeled SR903 on the circuit board holding the headphone and mic jacks.
Behind the woofer grills, there's a sheet of black foam covering the woofers, presumably so that the "High Fidelity" labels would stand out better. But you should go inside and remove that foam to reveal the beautiful white woofers. You will need to go inside, release the grill tabs, pull off the grills, remove the foam, cut off the plastic legs that supported the foam, and then use a Dremel tool to round out the speaker opening.
