Philips D8614 Boombox Philips D8614 Boombox Philips D8614 Boombox The D-8614 is a 4-speaker ghettoblaster / radiorecorder from Philips. It was made in 1982 in Austria. It has amazing sound with clear highs and great bass response. It has all the whistles and bells, including a 3-motor logic deck, line in and out, phono in, ext. speaker ports, twin 10 segment green and red led VU's, and Loudness function. It runs on 8 D-cells. It measures 61cm long, and has 17cm woofers.

Inside the D8614 are two TDA1011A amplifier chips. As you can see below, the service manual says it can produce 3.5 watts per channel when battery power is used, or 5 watts per channel when AC current is used. The Philips catalog says it produces 10 watts per channel, but that is probably "music power" instead of RMS.

The D8614 is a very good value because it's very common. You can find 3 or 4 of them on Ebay every single week. There was a version sold in France branded Radiola. And there is another version called the Philips D8634 that had square speaker grills instead of round.
