Aiwa Backtrack Retro Boombox
The Aiwa brand has changed hands multiple times. In the US it is used by a firm in New Jersey called Aiwa Acquisitions LLC, an affiliate of Sakar International. This model is one of their offerings. It started selling in Feb 2025 on Amazon and Target.com, but it's not a new design. Several identical products have been on the market for 2 years already. Here's a list of them:
Leotec LT-CD1908BUCT, LT-1909BUCT, LT-MP1908BUFT, LT-BT600RUC
Medion Life MD 44238, P66538
MUSE M-380 GB, M-380 GBS
Orion SCR-B9A
Roxel Camden
Soundmaster SCD1980
All of them are manufactured in China by Leotec Electronics. The FCC product code is 2AHW8-LT-MP1908BUFT.
The dimensions are 67 x 27 x 17 cm. Its overall styling was inspired by the Sharp GF-757 from the early 80s. It is available in black, silver, or yellow (corresponding to the following model numbers: AI7012-BLKGLD, AI7012-SIL, and AI7012-YLW). It has a CD player, cassette player, Bluetooth, FM/AM radio, and USB/SD/AUX inputs. For portable operation, you will need 8 D-cell batteries (this unit is NOT rechargeable). If you want rechargeable, you will need to buy the Leotec LT-BT600RUC instead.
Inside, it has 5.25" woofers and 1.2" tweeters. You can see in the last photo that the woofers are braced against the rear panel. Each side is acoustically separated, and there are two elbow-shaped bass ports. According to the manufacturer, the output power is 40 watts. The sound quality is surprisingly good for a plastic portable. Plenty of deep bass and crisp treble.
