The JVC RC-550, also known as "El Diablo" is a Massive Monophonic Boombox, as mono boxes go anyhow. It sports 3-way speakers with a huge 10" woofer that simply can't be missed as it stares you in the face. Casually viewed by itself in photos, the massive size is not immediately apparent until you see cassette door and realize that something is wrong..... "either the cassette deck is too small, or the boombox is too large." In fact, it is the relative size of the cassette deck (which everyone can reference) that gives this boombox size perspective. Being a monophonic boombox, it will lack the spatial sound element that is present in stereophonic boomboxes. However that does not mean it sounds bad. For whatever reason, this model is either a love it or hate it model. Regardless, it is an immensely popular model that commands high prices in the used collectors marketplace, especially when they are offered in top condition. The image below is of a Victor branded (Japanese domestic) version. There is also an ultra rare version that is silver color and was probably offered for sale only in Europe as that is where the majority of the examples known seem to have originated.
