Panasonic RF-888
The RF-888, also called the GX-300 or the Tech 800, was a very nice-sounding mono boombox from the year 1974. It was offered in two colors, red and black. It has a 6.5 inch dual-cone speaker with an inner mylar cone for treble. It came with a shoulder strap that could be snapped into its very sturdy spring-loaded slots. It accepts four D-cell batteries, or it can be plugged into the wall.
The one shown here is a RF-888JB, with AM, FM, and shortwave radio bands on the tuner. Other models had different bands.
The controls on this model include Bass, Treble, Loudness, Timer, Mic Mixing, Dial Light, DX/Local, and 2-way meter. Interestingly, it also has a 120-minute automatic on/off timer, set by a twist knob similar to a kitchen alarm.
