The Panasonic RX-CT980 is one of the best sounding "value" boomboxes around. When we say "value" we mean on the used marketplace. We are unaware of relative price when sold new. This is a 3-piece model with 4-amplifiers and a bi-amplified speaker system sporting ported loose sprung bass drivers and a fairly large high range driver. These features are the heart of and reason for the general consensus being an extremely strong performer. Digital tuner with presets, and graphic equalizer for controls, and CD/Auxillary input capability provides good configuration flexibility. Finally, a double cassette deck rounds out this sytem. The deck, while comprised primarily of plastic parts does not have a quality feel to it, however, this model was released at a time of generally declining quality and to be price competitive, was no different in this regard. Nevertheless, given the era in which it was sold, it is a remarkable performer.
