The biggest and heaviest boombox ever made by Toshiba! Good quality too.

Toshiba RT-S983 WX-1

The RT-S983 WX-1 was the biggest and heaviest ghettoblaster ever sold by Toshiba. In Japan it was called the RT-S98 MacKenzie. We believe it was made in 1982. It's a 3-piece system whose speakers can be attached below the main unit. It is VERY big (740 x 379 x 180mm) and VERY heavy (14 kg, and that's without batteries......it takes ten D-cells). It has a nice green dial light that highlights the VU meters nicely.

Each speaker contains a 12cm woofer, a 4cm tweeter, and a 16cm passive radiator. The passive radiators on the RT-S98 are black, while the ones on the RT-S983 are white and say "Toshiba". Be aware that there are foam surrounds on the speakers which will need to be changed if they haven't been done already. The tape decks were very advanced for the time, with adjustable pitch control, MQJS song search, Continuous Play, and ADRES (Automatic Dynamic Range Expansion System). The frequency response is allegedly 20Hz to 18kHz when using Metal tape. That's the best I've ever heard of for a boombox. If you need to change the belts, here are the belt sizes:
Deck A : Main belt is Toshiba part number 25755527 (PRB FRW9.2), and the center pulley belt is 25755528 (PRB SCQ 5.3).
Deck B : Same as deck A, but add a counter belt, which is part number 25755529 (PRB SCY 7.0).
