Boombox from 1988 with "3D Super Woofer Twin Drive"

Hitachi TRK-3D80 and TRK-3D88

The 3D80 and 3D88 ghettoblasters were introduced in 1988 by Hitachi. They measure 65cm long and weigh 12.8 lbs empty (without batteries). The biggest difference between the two is that the 3D88 has "legs" on the bottom.

The "super woofers" are 16cm diameter, and the outer speakers are 12cm. The "super woofers" have a separate amplifier that receives only low frequencies. Press the red "3D" button to engage them. Power output is 2x3 watts to the outer speakers and 2x4 watts to the super woofers, for a total of 14 watts @ 10% distortion (when using batteries). Power output when using AC is unknown.

There are two cassette decks (one with auto-reverse). These decks aren't very good. There's only one motor, shared by both decks. And there's a silly piece of nylon pushing against the back of the flywheel, adding a slight scraping noise when it's running.

The LED meter has left and right segments, but it is not a true stereo meter. In other words, the same number of LED's flash on both sides, even if 100% of the sound is coming from one channel.
