The Sanyo M-9994 is an all time favorite. One of the best sounding, most well built models around. This author believes it's one of the best medium boomboxes one can acquire. As this model is fairly rare and always in high demand, prices can be a bit on the high side. The example below was owned by this author and sold on the online auctionhouse eBay about 8 years ago for over $600, however it was fully functionally restored and received a complete capacitor replacement service.
This model has 3-meters, one for tuning/battery strength along the edge of the tuner dial, and a pair of white backed ones below the cassette door that registers power output. Dual aeriels supply RF signals to the tuner. The attractive tuner dial is illuminated with a green glow that travels along an acrylic dial. It is very powerful for it's size and physically has good heft to it. It feels solid, and does not creak when carried. Twin tweeters swivel allowing directional focusing of the high frequencies. A unique midtone button augments and significantly strengthens the midtones which makes this boombox quite the screamer for extended range outdoors. A "K" version (M-9994k) is available and it would appear was released in Europe or other than North America. That version includes shortwave bands and the midtone button is replaced with a loudness button. It's more than just a relabeling of the button as the tonal effect of that feature is entirely different between the K and non-K models. Takes 8 "D" cells as well as internal AC power supply. Fresh out of the box, this model was supplied with dual top mounted external microphones. It allowed highly effective stereo recordings. Interestingly, within the Sanyo lineup for the years it was released, Sanyo marketed this model in their brochures as "professional" whereas the other sanyo boombox models were lumped together in a separate category. It is believed that this model was intended for professionals wanting a high quality portable recording device.
