The D8444, nicknamed the "Power Player", was an early 1980s ghettoblaster from <a class="wiki" href="Philips" rel="">Philips</a>. It has 5 speakers, including two piezo tweeters. Philips tended to "go their own way" with regards to styling and exterior design. Check out the unique rear panel, which appears to bulge outward to accommodate the big woofer. And the graphics around each of the knobs are very cool. Unfortunately, this model has a reputation for being more bark than bite. The speakers and amps are not very strong. According to the service manual, power output is 2x2 watts for the outer speakers, and 3.2 watts for the center woofer. And the speaker magnets are tiny. Tape deck frequency response is 60 to 10,000 Hz when using Normal tape, and 60 to 14,000 Hz when using Metal or Chrome tape.
