Lasonic produced some of the most popular boomboxes amongst collectors. Lasonic products appear to be manufactured in Taiwan. They still produce and sell boomboxes today although their new models, while retaining much of the classic looks no longer have analog dial tuners even though the graphics might lead one to think that they do have that feature. This is understandable because the graphics and decals printed on the face look like a classic tuner window. The most popular of their product line is arguably the iconic TRC-931. However the quality of this (and their other black boomboxes models) from the outer shell to the components used internally is arguably horrible. Many examples sold and shipped arrived at the destination with the transformers breaking loose from the thin internal plastic mounts (screw post/towers) and acted as defacto wrecking balls. This model may have arguably been the one from where the term "big empty boxes" or "big empty black boxes" originated, referring to the cavernous shell with little internal electronics to justify the large case. However the attractive colorful graphics, large size, loud volume, and flashy looks nevertheless conspired to keep this model popular amongst casual consumers and collectors alike.
