Fisher PH-W5000

This Fisher PH-W5000 was sold in the year 1990. It's a 3-piece boombox with some nice-looking gold trim on the speakers and the legs. It's 29 inches long and weighs 13 lbs without batteries. It has 2 tape decks, a digital tuner, and Aux inputs. The tuner has FM presets (you must insert 2 AA batteries to save station memory). There is no CD player. To get a CD player, you would have needed to buy the PH-D8000 or PH-D9000 instead.

The service manual says its output power is 2x5.5W. That might not seem like much, but Fisher made the most of it. It sounds very clean and detailed. The speakers are 3-way, with long-tube bass ducts that are indeed functional (the lowest bass frequencies comes from the ducts instead of from the woofers). To my ears, the best sound quality is acheived with EQ slider #1 all the way up, silder #2 30-40% up, silder #3 50% up, and slider #4 70-80% up.

Like several other Fishers, this model has some "Rear Speaker" output jacks you can connect to a second pair of speakers to achieve a 4-speaker "surround" effect. They work only when the "Surround" button is pressed. But I have never seen any speakers like that from Fisher, so they probably wanted you to get your own.
