The Aimor ST-804SL and ST-804FS2 are mid-sized ghettoblasters with excellent sound quality.

Aimor ST-804

The ST-804 is a very cool boombox with 4 speakers mounted in a co-axial format. Mine has a production date stamp of Feb 1983. There is an LED output meter in the tuner window, and LED peak indicators under the microphone grills. It only has a Tone control (not separate Bass and Treble), but that doesn't matter, because it sounds great, with good bass and clear treble. In fact, it's probably the best-sounding box with a Tone knob I've ever heard. I could listen to it all day.

Specifications:

  • Speakers: 16cm woofers, 5cm tweeters
  • Output: 12 watts "music power"
  • Wow and flutter: 0.15%
  • Frequency response: 60 to 12,000 Hz when using CrO2 tape
  • 20.5 inches wide (including the tuner knob), 11.6 inches tall (including knobs)
  • Weight: 13.6 lbs without batteries
  • Place of manufacture: Japan

Service notes:

  • To remove the rear case, remove the 4 screws on each corner, plus the one in the battery compartment, plus the 3 screws on top, plus the screw between the antennas.
  • If you need to clean the volume and function switches, you should pull out the inner chassis and circuit boards. Otherwise it will be very difficult for you to reach the correct lubrication points.
  • If this boombox fails to power on, the most likely reason is the AC/DC toggle switch on the back. It might be dirty or loose.
  • This boombox has Phono inputs, but they are not calibrated correctly for MP3 players. The music will be very distorted. That's why I prefer using the Mic inputs instead. Just connect your phone or MP3 player to them and press Record/Play on the tape deck.
