Nippon PSS-008
The Nippon PSS-008 is a 3-piece, 220-volt ghettoblaster from the early 1980s. It measures 713mm long and 294mm tall (with the handle down), and it weighs 8.7 KG without batteries. It has detachable speakers, but you don't need to use speaker cables. The speakers have electrical contacts where they attach to the center section.
It was made in Taiwan, but it's built better than the average Taiwanese boombox, with a metal inner chassis supporting all the controls. And it has a huge Sanyo STK430III amplifier, the same one used in the Sharp GX-300. It's VERY strong (when using AC power). The plastic speaker boxes are sealed (the vents on the back are fake), so the bass cannot escape out the back. The speakers include 11cm, 4 ohm woofers and 5cm, 8 ohm tweeters. The volume knob is nice, it has a detented movement with 40 detents. The tuner needle is lit. The VU meter can be set to measure input or output level.
There were two re-branded versions: The Juliette and the CosmoSonic CPA-5051.
