Amstrad 8090
Here is the model 8090 portable stereo from Amstrad, year 1983 timeframe, offered in a champagne finish. We believe it was built by Orion, because it is identical to the Orion PST-1. It measures approximately 23 inches long, and was priced at £199.99. The large LED meter is quite nice. But its real claim to fame was the pull-out cassette player, which was supplied with a vinyl carry case and a pair of headphones. This player was playback-only. The other one had recording capabilities. The detachable speakers contain 4-inch woofers and 1-inch tweeters. Power output was supposedly 2 x 12.5 watts RMS, although that sounds a bit ambitious for this price class.
