This was the third boombox TDK introduced in 2011. It's cube shaped, with 2 active speakers and 2 passive radiators.

TDK Sound Cube TP6701BLK

The TDK TP6701 Sound Cube is an interesting, cube-shaped boombox that came out in 2011. It has a leather carry strap on top, so yes, you can take it outside, but you would need to add twelve D-cell batteries. That's right, it's not rechargeable. And it doesn't have Bluetooth either. Apparently TDK didn't think that feature was important enough at the time. So it can only play AM/FM, USB drives, Aux cables, and iPhone/iPods (the instructions say it can accept iPhone 3G and 3GS, iPod Classic, iPod Touch 2nd gen, and iPod Nano 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gen).

Now let's do a sound quality review. There's a speaker on all 4 sides. The left and right ones are active (powered), while the ones on the front and back are passive radiators that amplify the bass. Stereo separation is excellent, because the left and right speakers reflect the sound off your walls, creating an immersive, dimensional feel. I didn't expect it to sound so good, but it does. In fact, in smaller rooms I actually prefer it over TDK's larger models (the 2 Speaker and the 3 Speaker).

Make sure you have the latest firmware installed. The last version I'm aware of was 2.3.7. You can see which version you have by holding down the OK button while turning the power on (keep holding it down for several seconds until the menu appears), and then select "Version" in the menu.
