Specs and Review: "Big Ben" with its awesome 20CM Super Woofer. それは1980年代からの最もよいラジオの1つです!

Sanyo MR-X20 Big Ben

The Sanyo MR-X20, nicknamed Big Ben, was a large, high-quality boombox from 1981. It was sold in Japan and has Japanese labels. There was another version with English labels called the M-X960. Both have the same features.

Its suggested retail price was 97,800 yen. It measures 607mm wide, 367mm tall (handle down), and 211mm deep. It weighs 9.6 KG without batteries. There are 5 speakers, including two 12cm full-range speakers, two tweeters, and one 20cm "Super Woofer" that sits behind a removable grill. According to Sanyo, this "Super Woofer" is dedicated to frequencies below 300 Hz. Its volume can be adjusted with the Super Woofer knob located to the left of the Bass knob. The Super Woofer is powered by a Toshiba TA7205CAP amplifier, while the other 4 speakers are powered by a Sanyo LA4440 amplifier. Sanyo says the power output is 10W to the Super Woofer and 10W to the other speakers.

This boombox was offered in two colors, silver or dark gray. The silver one has a silver ring around the super woofer, while the dark gray one has a red ring instead.

Overall, I think it's one of the best-sounding radios from the 1980's. The bass goes deep and the highs are really good too. Playing house music on this is great. The tape deck is good quality, its wow and flutter is only 0.055%, and its frequency response of 30 to 17,000 Hz when using Metal tape. Be careful when carrying or shipping this boombox, because the antennas are mounted high off the chassis where they can be easily broken.
