This is one of GE's rarest boomboxes. Supposedly it's from 1985. What makes it unique is that the tape deck can be separated from the tuner. For what purpose? Well, manufacturers liked to be able to say "Component System!!!!", even when the average consumer didn't really care. Sure, having separate components makes repairs easier, but it also adds a lot of weight, because you have to give the components metal walls to withstand being stacked onto each other. And the handle needs to be beefier as well.
The model SS-55 speakers are labeled "Spectrum VI Sound System", whatever that means. They appear to be 3-way speakers, but I've never seen this model in person. For all I know, one of the woofers might be passive.
