The Sony CFS-100 / CFS-600 Mini Stereo Cassette-Corder from 1978

Sony CFS-100

The CFS-100 Cassette-Corder was a very unique mini stereo system by Sony. It was introduced in 1978. In Japan it was called the CFS-600, and its suggested retail price was 89,800 Yen. It was meant to be placed on a bookshelf in a small studio or office. You could also carry it outside, and power it with batteries, but you would need to carry everything in the optional carry case (part number LC-16). I doubt many people did this, because it's VERY heavy. They probably just left it at home on their shelf. Sony offered a shelf stand for this purpose, shown below (part number SU-16).

Late 70's Sony portables were very high quality, and this unit is no exception. It has metal housings, metal knobs, excellent tuner reception, and a nice tuner light that works when you hold down the light button. The 10cm full-range speakers are built very well, with extremely rigid cases, gaskets, and big magnets. The cones have foam surrounds, so if they've never been re-foamed before, you will need to do it.
