Great-looking 3-piece ghettoblaster made by Philips in 1986. It has 7 speakers!

Philips D8554

The D-8554 Sound-Machine was a nice-looking 3-piece boombox from Philips. It comes from the mid/late 1980's, when designers started adding brighter colors to their products. The blue, orange, and chrome accents on this model are very nice!

It has a total of 7 speakers. 2 of them are pizeo tweeters, located inside the chrome pods on top of each speaker. The big center woofer looks cool, but it takes a bit of work to get good bass from it. The best way is to connect a phone or MP3 player that has some kind of equalizer or bass booster. Once you've got it dialed in, this is a very nice sounding boombox. Clear and brilliant. It also has Philips' usual Spatial Stereo feature, which allows you to adjust the stereo separation. NOTE: There is another version of this boombox called the D8854 with a CD player instead of the center woofer.
